Foreskin Care (8)

Care of the foreskin for intact infants, boys, and men

Basic Care of the Intact Child

by Tally on January 31, 2010
Visit http://www.drmomma.org/2010/01/basic-care-of-intact-child.html

Thorough and detailed information on how to care for a boy with an intact penis, that is, a boy who is not circumcised. At first, an infant does not require any special care of his intact penis - just wipe like a finger. Care of a circumcised infant is much different because the circumcision wound must be handled carefully and kept clean as it heals. The article notes that the foreskin may not retract naturally until after the boy is 10 years old or older.

Clinical features and management of recurrent balanitis; association with atopy and genital washing.

by Tally on November 30, 2009

Study published in Genitourin Med. (currently Sexually Transmitted Infections), 1993 October; 69(5): 400–403. This study shows that using soap to wash under the foreskin contributes to balanitis.

For 72% of the patients with recurrent balinitis, "a diagnosis of irritant dermatitis was made. In comparison with the remaining patients, they had a greater lifetime incidence of atopic illness and more frequent daily genital washing with soap. For 28 (90%) of these patients, use of emollient creams and restriction of soap washing alone controlled symptoms satisfactorily."

Glansie for treating phimosis

by Tally-admin on November 29, 2010
Visit http://www.glansie.com/

Glansie for treating phimosisThe Glansie is a patented device that stretches the foreskin opening to treat phimosis. The tip of the tool is inserted in the opening of the foreskin and the tool is operated to gently stretch the opening. Over time, the opening of the prepuce enlarges, allowing the foreskin to fully retract.

Phimosis is a medical condition, occurring in many un-circumcised men, in which the foreskin cannot be fully retracted over the head of the penis. The condition is
embarrassing and reduces sensitivity of the penis during sexual intercourse.
Commonly it may also lead to infection of the head of the penis, causing irritation and discharge.

The tightening of the foreskin is caused by a tight preputial ring, a band of fibrous tissue at the end of the foreskin. Glansie allows you to stretch the preputial ring, gradually increasing the amount by which the foreskin can be retracted. This is a completely natural process, accomplished in the comfort of your own home.

Moral Landscapes: What Is the Greatest Danger for an Uncircumcised Boy? A doctor’s visit can harm your boy. Written by John Geisheker, J.D., LL.M. and published on October 23, 2011 by Darcia Narvaez, Ph.D. in Moral Landscapes, Psychology Today.

WHAT IS THE MOST DANGEROUS EVENT FACING AN 'INTACT' (NOT CIRCUMCISED) BOY?

Aside from circumcision? ... a well-baby visit. Our physicians' international non-profit intervenes in over 100 cases each year of intact boys who were injured by a primary care provider. The injury is called 'PFFR,' or Premature Forcible Foreskin Retraction. We conservatively estimate the annual incidence in the U.S. at more than 100,000 cases. Ironically, many occur when a parent takes the child to a well-baby visit, at 6, 12, or 24 months; but this injury might occur at any age. The children we have helped range in age from one week to 12 years.
