Mainstream media has picked up on the study that reported a correlation between circumcision and prostate cancer. One doctor, a surgeon, has publicly stated that the media reporting is overhyped and the study does not support the many headlines.

Child Up: Should You Circumcise your Child?
A pragmatic look at male infant circumcision. The conclusion is that there is no medical reason to support cutting of part of a baby boy's sex organ.

Enlightened Male2000: Four Reasons Why Baby Boys Should Keep Their Foreskin
Four very good reasons baby boys should not be circumcised. The list is accompanied with NSFW pictures of adult foreskins.

Body + Soul: The circumcision debate
An article weighing the pros and cons to male infant circumcision in Australia. The general slant is that male infant circumcision serves no purpose in modern societies. Pro-circumcisionist Brian Morris did not like the article, based on his comment to the post. What is this fascination with cutting the sex organs of baby boys that some men have?

Everyone's Gran: The Boy Who Was Raised As A Girl - Botched Circumcision
The year was 1965. The boy's infant circumcision was botched. Actually, it was worse than botched. His penis was cut off during the circumcision. So, one doctor convinced the parents to raise the boy as a girl. Sadly, the boy was not a girl and he rebelled at a young age. Eventually, he committed suicide. What arrogance of man to act as god and attempt to redesign the human body of others.

Natural Parents Network: Top 10 Reasons to Leave Your Son Intact
A top ten list worthy of Letterman. The list is brief and succinct. The list includes everything from that most of the world is intact to "his body, his choice." A good list of reasons to not circumcise baby boys.

Zimbabwe News Day: More questions on male circumcision and HIV prevention
An insightful article questioning the male circumcision campaign being waged in Africa. After considering all the evidence, the author concludes that local research is needed. He is particularly concerned with the research showing that the HIV rate increased about 61% for women when they had a circumcised partner. But no one is considering the adverse impact of male circumcision on women. He also points out that several African nations have higher HIV rates for circumcised men than for intact men.

All Voices: Circumcision, PrEP and Vaginal Gel: HIV Prevention Show-Stoppers?
HIV in Kenya: Circumcision, PrEP and Vaginal Gel: HIV Prevention Show-Stoppers?
Absolute and relative risk reduction is discussed with respect to advocates of various HIV related treatments. Before anyone accepts circumcision or other treatments as a way to stop HIV, they should consider all the numbers. The low absolute risk reduction numbers tell a different story than the circumcision advocates want people to hear.

Saving Our Sons: Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner Welcome Healthy, Whole Baby Boy
In 2006 Ben Affleck appeared on The Daily Show, where Jon Stewart showed a fake headline about Ben Affleck's stance on circumcision. Chances are, Affleck's recently born son is intact.

EmpowHER: Male Reproductive Disorder: Balanoposthitis
Balanitis is inflammation of the glans (head) of the penis. Posthitis is inflammation of the foreskin. And balanoposthitis a condition in which there is inflammation of both. Medscape.com says that topical antibiotics and antifungals or low-potency steroid creams can help treat balanoposthitis. Male circumcision is not as necessary as previously thought.

Moralogous: The problem with HIV as a justification for circumcision
The claims by advocates of the circumcision campaign in Africa do not hold up under scrutiny. The author puts forth several reasons why the claims are not sufficient to justify genital cutting of males. "The African circumcision and HIV studies are dangerous, immoral and futile, and only make sense if you see them in their historical context: yet another in a long string of diseases that circumcision was supposed to prevent.  We laugh when people joke that masturbation causes blindness, but 150 years ago, doctors really did think that was true, and so promoted circumcision as a way to prevent masturbation which would lead to blindness, epilepsy, and so on.  Today’s focus on HIV is no different."

Choose Intact: Quoting Dr. Doug Diekema Against the AAP’s Position
A pro-circumcision doctor was recently quoted in an article about male infant circumcision and the movement seeking to allow baby boys to remain whole and grow up with all their body parts. Tony addresses many of the points made by the doctor to show why male infant circumcision should remain as a disfavored procedure. He points out that the doctor avoids the ethical question of infant circumcision by relying upon the parent's choice. But the penis does not belong to the parents. It is the boy's choice to decide what happens to his penis.

no circumcision: Swedish docs in circumcision protest - The Local
A report of the Swedish Paediatric Society (Svenska barnläkarföreningen, BLF), which is advocating that religious and non-medical male circumcision ought to be banned in Sweden. It is their position that circumcision is mutilation and an assault if done without consent of the person being cut.

Everyone's Gran: Circumcision - I Wouldn't Do It To My Child If You Paid Me - Part Three
The third in a series about male infant circumcision. Outside the United States, doctors and medical groups do not advocate non-therapeutic male circumcision. Male circumcision is not easier for babies than adults. Older boys and adults have pain medication available to ease any issues that they may have.

an unschooling adventure: Circumcision: How Much Do You Know About It?
An attachment parent blog post seeking to educate about male infant circumcision. The blogger covers the gamut from religion to supposed health benefits. She then describes how a circumcision is performed. It is a shocking and barbaric procedure. It is a shame so many still inflict this painful, unnecessary surgery on their infant boys.

ButterflyBirth: 10 Reasons NOT to Circumcise
Why is there a "decision" about circumcision? Do parents decide if a newborn baby has to have a tattoo? Why should there be a decision about amputating part of a newborn baby boy's sex organ? The author attempts to provide reasons why parents should just leave the sex organs of their baby boys alone.

Wholesome Mama Pioneer Spirit: Paradigm Shift: My Journey From Pro-Circumcision to Intactivist
A mother describes her journey from being a teenager who wanted nothing to do with an intact penis to a mother who gave birth to a boy that she would not have circumcised. 42 month progress report for my foreskin restoration

by Tally on February 9, 2012

42 month foreskin restoration progress reportI started restoring my foreskin 42 months ago. That is three and one-half years. I have not tugged continuously that whole time, though.

I spent the first 52 years of my life never thinking about my circumcision. Like most others of my generation, I was circumcised shortly after birth. Growing up, I was just like everyone else - circumcised. It was my "normal." It was only when I was researching for my scheduled prostate surgery that I learned about circumcision and the problems that it could cause.

I also learned about foreskin restoration. I started manual tugging with method 2 as soon as I read about it on the web. I was driven. When I started tugging, I tugged a lot. And my progress was rapid. Read more . . .

The following list includes blogs, articles, and websites of interest to Intactivists that were published in the past week. This is a running tally of the ones I found interesting.

The big news this week is that some in Colorado are seeking to restore Medicaid funding of male infant circumcision. Last year, Colorado stopped using Medicaid funds to pay for male infant circumcision. Last year Colorado recognized that male infant circumcision is not medically required and is elective surgery that the government should not pay for. But some want the government to start paying for elective surgery for baby boys, but not adults.

Solutions: Colorado Senate committee votes to restore Medicaid funds for circumcision
On Thursday, the Colorado Senate Health and Human Services Committee voted 6 to 3 to restore Medicaid funding for male infant circumcision. In spite of seven who testified against the measure, the committee voted to have the government pay for elective surgery.

What is this fascination that some people have with cutting off parts of a baby boy's penis?

The WHOLE Network: Medical Research Studies on Circumcision

A video showing how to use a TLC-X, a bi-directional foreskin restoration device. Restoring devices are often preferred by those wishing to restore their foreskin.

Choose Intact: The New York Times Links to a Fetish Site
A critique of the recent article in the NYT about circumcision devices available for use in the Africa male circumcision campaign. The critique very ably points out that the NYT article is poorly researched and has few facts supporting its statements. Basically, the NYT article reflects the poor journalism that is rampant in the United States today.

Stop the Cut: Why The Caribbean Must Reject Circumcision As A Method For HIV Prevention
An article detailing why the male circumcision campaign that is being waged in Africa should not be adopted in the Caribbean. The studies promoting circumcision were performed in Africa, which has a unique culture that may account for the results. There is no justification to extrapolate the results for Africa to the Caribbean. Further, the studies are not supported by real world observations.

Bay Area Intactivists held a Rally for Gender Equality outside the United Methodist Church during the course of the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California (ACLU) Pro-Choice Brunch. For some reason, the ACLU seeks to protect women's choice, but does not protect men's choice to grow up with an intact body.

Choose Intact: Like Mother, Like Son
A mother recently had her 10 year old son tattooed. She was charged with misdemeanor child cruelty. In the majority of states in the US, it is illegal to tattoo a minor. But, it is accepted that bays can have part of their penis cut off as an infant. Why is tattooing illegal and male infant circumcision OK?

On Line Opinion: Circumcision in Australia: neither needed nor ethical
Australian medical authorities have given a firm thumbs down to routine circumcision of male infants and boys. But some still insist on cutting the sex organs of their sons. Some parents insist on male infant circumcision, even though there is no real evidence that circumcised boys are healthier than intact boys.

Babies, Boobs, & Blasphemy: Basketball, Religion, and Penises
Seeing Jewish boys reminds the author of the Jewish rite of Brit Milah. Those boys were circumcised. Their foreskins were sacrificed by others, not by them. Like many others, Erin is against male infant circumcision for any reason, including religous reasons.
