On caution (on relying on published studies)
Article published by Bandolier, "Evidence based thinking about health care." The author comments "that if we accept evidence of poor quality, without validity, or where there are few events or numbers of patients, we are likely, often highly likely, to be misled." The author examined studies published in the three major medical journals that were cited more than 1000 times. Seven of the 49 studies were later contradicted by other studies. A further seven studies found effects that appeared exaggerated in view of later studies. The author's findings were consistent with those of Ionnides.
