My first Intactivist protest

by Tally on November 2, 2014 Bookmark and Share

The first group shot of intactivists protesting against male infant circumcisionIntact Knoxville and Bloodstained Men hosted an intactivist event against circumcision yesterday in Knoxville, Tennessee. I am happy to say that I participated.

The weather was cold. Two days before the event we were enjoying 70 degree, sunny days. Saturday it was in the low 30s. Fortunately the rain and snow predicted for the area did not hit downtown, where the event was held. Still, the cold weather kept many people away from where we were gathered.

Knoxville has a farmers market every Saturday in Market Square downtown. Market Square is a public area with a stage, an open area for gathering, and a small green park. It is a popular gathering place for concerts and an evening outdoor movie series held in the summertime.

Well, Saturday saw more than 40 intactivists gathering in the morning and early afternoon to spread the word that male infant circumcision is an affront to human rights and is a practice that needs to stop. Most of the people we encountered were receptive to our message that infant circumcision needs to stop.

Bloodstained men (click to embiggen)Many thanks go to the Bloodstained Men who traveled to Knoxville to add their voice to those of local intactivists. David Atkinson, Jonathan Friedman, and Brother K stopped in Knoxville on their 10-day trip to various cities in the South East. Those living in the South East need to check out the FaceBook Event Southeastern Circumcision Protests to see if there is a protext scheduled near them. If so, you need to participate.

I thank them for their efforts. It is appreciated.

It was a pleasure meeting these three intactivists. I have followed them on FaceBook for a while. It is always nice, though, to meet people in person.

A local television station's video reporter interviewed Brother K. Unfortunately, the station has not broadcast the video.

Bloodstained Men ribbon (click to embiggen)Jonathan Friedman gave me a ribbon to wear. The white ribbon with red center matches the Bloodstained Men outfit. I wear it proudly. It is a good symbol of the unnecessary pain that an infant experiences during an infant circumcision and that an adult experiences from his circumcision for the rest of his life. Jonathan had made up several ribbons and was passing them out to participants.

Overall, the intactivists were well received in Knoxville. Many people took pictures of the protest signs and, in particular, the Bloodstained Men in their costumes. I made a point of handing out information cards to the picture takers. I figured if they showed enough interest in taking our picture then they would likely read the information I gave them.
