Intactivism: Week in Review December 11, 2010
Parents, protect your babies. Support intactivism. The following list includes blogs, articles, and websites of interest to Intactivists that were published in the past week. This is a running tally of the ones I found interesting.
The featured page this week an undated article published in the Brooklyn magazine Stay Free!:
Stay Free!: Porn Flakes: Kellogg, Graham and the Crusade for Moral Fiber
A Brooklyn magazine article describing how sexual repression was promoted by J.H. Kellogg and Sylvester Graham in the late 19th Century. Their legacy lives with us as most adult men in the United States are circumcised, along with some women who had clitorectomies.

Dr Momma Peaceful Parenting: Ready to Talk: A Jewish Mother's Change of Heart
A Jewish mother describes her conversion to an intactivist. She wonders why it is not okay to ask a grown man to circumcise himself, but it is considered okay to make that decision for a defenseless baby. She now wants to stop the horrible practice of male infant circumcision.
AllVoices: Circumcision is a matter which is required in Islam...
Circumcision is a matter which is required in Islam. Traditionally, male circumcision is performed on pre-pubescent boys. Circumcision when a boy is between 10 and 13 is less painful than infant circumcision because the foreskin is no longer fused to the glans, thereby avoiding the pain of separating the tissues.

Daily Monitor: I am human, I have rights, so why mutilate my genitals?
This article could have been written by a man in the United States instead of an African woman. She says, "I am human. I have rights and my sensibilities are in place." By letting a culture that supports male genital cutting thrive, "aren’t we rewriting universal principles of freedom, human rights and dignity?"

Dr Momma Peaceful Parenting: Forced Retraction: Don't Let it Happen to Your Son
(The post is dated November 1 although it was published on December 8) A mother describes her attempts to keep her pediatrician from retracting the foreskin of her intact son. Unfortunately, she listened to her pediatrician and forcibly retracted her son's foreskin, which resulted in an infections of her son's penis. She learned a valuable lesson, although at her son's expense. Only clean what is seen, and never retract. Forced premature retraction is epidemic among American healthcare workers, including pediatricians and nurses and even doctors and nurses in the maternity ward.
Rudaw: Cleric Says Female Circumcision Recommended by Islam
The Imam of Hajji Osman Alaf Mosque in Iraqi Kurdistan’s second largest city, Sulaimani, says that female circumcision is a recommendation from the prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him). The imam says that female circumcision was a “Sunnah," a term used to refer to the practices carried out or recommended by the Prophet of Islam. There is disagreement among Islam scholars regarding the requirement for female genital cutting. I note that female genital mutilation of minors is outlawed in the United States. But, no one seems as concerned about restricting the religious practice of female genital cutting as they do about restricting male genital cutting or male circumcision.

Smith College Sophian: Sex and the Smithie: A Snippet on Snipping
A foreskin makes intercourse "smoother" because it either covers or meets the corona, the ridge around the head of the penis, preventing the corona from getting caught on the inside of the vagina or anus. So that means less discomfort for the receiver, which sounds like a great plan to me. Like its female homologue, the clitoral hood, the foreskin is also full of nerve endings.
The Examiner: Dr. Dean Edell retirement: Facebook page launched
Dr. Dean Edell, a noted intactivist who often spoke out against male infant circumcision, is retiring from his radio program. A FaceBook page We will miss you Dr. Dean Edell says goodbye to the doctor.
Calgary Herald: Dealing with urinary tract infections
